Always Late TV is dedicated to providing the best service for our customers and our filmmakers. That is why we are relaunching our Video On Demand service with new features and a bold new look!
“Always Late TV’s Video On Demand service is a bold idea in the St. Louis filmmaking community, but it is still in it’s infancy,” Always Late TV’s owner, Kevin Edwards states, “We got a core group of filmmakers together to sign deals and provide content for our viewers. We’ve added their trailers into each episode of Local Ambition 5.0 this season. The service is working, but we understand what we need to do to make it better.”
In mid-December, Always Late TV will be partnering with the same distribution service that Comedy Central and VICE use to stream their content online. “It’s been a deal that I’ve been working on for a while and we’re just now getting close to finishing it,” Edwards says. The new format will allow Always Late TV customers the opportunity to find independent content created by local (and not-so-local) filmmakers more easily with an easy-to-use payment system. Customers will be able to click on the content they want and, without going to a new screen, will be able to enter their payment details into a sidebar and check out. Any content that is purchased will be added to the customer’s ALTV library each time they login to the site – like AmazonPrime.
What will the site look like though? “Netflix,” Edwards answers, “The new Always Late TV Video On Demand site will look a lot like what Netflix has right now. There will be thumbnails that customers can scroll through with information that pops up about each title when they click on it. The site will have a fresh, new sleek look that will be a lot more visually appealing than what we’ve got currently.”
A lot of Video On Demand services offer customers closed captions and Always Late TV will be doing the same. Viewers will be able to watch content with English subtitles or in a handful of other popular foreign languages (Spanish, French, etc.). “It’s a lot of work to add these, because I’m going in and doing them myself, but it’s worth it. We’re missing a large audience by not having them and we look to close the gap by providing them in the future,” he states.
Netflix, Hulu, AmazonPrime, and other streaming services also offer apps – but what about Always Late TV?
“Yes,” Edwards answers.
Always Late TV will have an app for its Video On Demand service in 2017. The app will be available on ALL major app stores, so customers can find them on their iPhones, Androids, and other smart phones – even smart TV’s! Customers who have the app will receive notifications instantly when new content is available or if there is an update to content that they have already watched or followed. There is no set date for the launch of the app, but it will come next year.
“We are going to run on a transaction model where customers buy or rent the content that they want,” Edwards says, “In the future, we would like to switch over to a subscription model and offer our customers all the content they want for a low monthly fee.”
This is an exciting time for Always Late TV and 2016 has been very good to us. Local Ambition 5.0 has surpassed last year’s season; we’ve been featured on radio and television; we’ve been covered in Miraflores magazine in Italy; had an article in the Huffington Post; started work with Holyfire Games to develop a video game featuring Always Late TV talent; and launched our VOD service. Now, we look to end 2016 strong with the relaunch of Video On Demand to set the standard for what our viewers can expect in the following year.
